Washington Author Kate Woodcock Releases Debut Novel Set in Professional Motorsport

“Endurance” Explores Athletic Recovery and Second Chances Against the Backdrop of Le Mans

WASHINGTON, March 2026 — Kate Woodcock, a former automotive industry professional, has released her debut novel “Endurance,” a contemporary romance set in the world of professional endurance racing. The novel, published by Parker Publishers, is the first installment in the planned six-book Richter Racing Series.

The novel centers on two protagonists: Matt Davidson, a former professional racing driver recovering from a career-ending injury, and Erica Richter, an automotive executive preparing her team for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the oldest and most prestigious endurance races in motorsport.

Woodcock drew on her professional background in the automotive industry to portray the technical and physical demands of endurance racing. The novel addresses themes including athletic recovery, chronic pain management, and workplace dynamics in male-dominated industries.

About the Book

Matt Davidson held an 87 percent win rate in professional racing before a drugging incident led to a crash that shattered his leg in four places. After three surgeries and two years away from the sport, he works as a mechanic in Las Vegas.

Erica Richter, head of Richter Automotive Group, has spent two years developing the Rasant GT for Le Mans competition. She recruits Davidson to drive for her team, a decision complicated by his physical limitations and the presence of Jake Parker, a rival driver with a personal history involving both protagonists.

The novel follows their professional partnership and developing relationship as they prepare for the 24-hour race, while navigating industry politics, media scrutiny, and Davidson’s ongoing recovery.

“I wanted to write a story where the physical and psychological costs of returning to elite competition are central to the narrative,” Woodcock said. “The character’s injury doesn’t disappear. The pain doesn’t fully go away. Recovery is an ongoing process, not a single moment of triumph.”

The 24 Hours of Le Mans, held annually in France since 1923, requires teams to race continuously for 24 hours, testing both driver endurance and vehicle reliability. The race serves as the primary setting for the novel’s climax.
