COLLEGE STATION, TX – October 28, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
The Bryan-College Station company opened in 2004 with two touchless bays behind a gas station. Twenty-two years later, touchless is the part of the operation it is rebuilding.
Drew’s Car Wash will replace the equipment in its 24-hour touchless wash bays in College Station this fall, rebuilding the oldest service line at a company that now operates seven express tunnel locations across Brazos County.
The touchless bays run at two of the company’s College Station sites. The bays beside the University Drive location operate under their own address at 720 Earl Rudder Fwy, on the Earl Rudder Freeway frontage, with separate signage and a separate entrance from the express tunnel next door. A second set operates at the Tower Point site at 4442 State Highway 6 S, on the Highway 6 frontage road. Both are open 24 hours a day, every day, with a daily equipment reset between 3:30 and 5:00 a.m. The company selected that window after reviewing overnight traffic counts across the two sites.
Touchless washing uses high-pressure water and cleaning solution rather than brushes or cloth, with nothing making physical contact with the vehicle. The method is a common choice for vinyl wraps, ceramic coatings, matte paint and darker finishes, where contact equipment can leave the fine scratching known in the trade as swirl marks.
It is also the only option at Drew’s for vehicles that will not fit a conveyor tunnel. The touchless bays clear 90 inches and carry no tire width limit. The company’s express tunnels clear 84 inches and limit tire width to 12.5 inches, which rules out dually trucks, many lifted trucks, and vehicles carrying roof racks or roof-mounted light bars. Drivers of those vehicles have limited options in Bryan and College Station, where most express operators run tunnels only.
Vacuum and amenity stations at both sites follow express tunnel hours, Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and shut off at 7:30 p.m. The touchless bays stay open overnight for washing only. The company says it would rather customers know that before driving over at midnight than discover it in the lot.
The equipment being replaced is where the business started. Drew Congleton opened two touchless wash bays at his gas station on the corner of University Drive and Highway 6 in 2004, adding a third in 2007. The company built its first express tunnel at the same corner in January 2009, and that format drove the expansion that followed: Texas Avenue in College Station in October 2012, Tower Point in August 2018, Texas Avenue in Bryan in August 2021, Wellborn Road in December 2022, Highway 21 in January 2024, and Boonville Road in Bryan in July 2025. The touchless bays stayed in service throughout, serving the vehicles and the hours the tunnels could not.
“What hasn’t changed since 2004 is our commitment to continually improving the wash experience for our customers. We’ve recently added nanobubble technology, continue to work closely with our chemical distributor to find ways to improve wash quality, and are upgrading our existing touchless wash bays with state-of-the-art technology this fall. As equipment and technology continue to evolve, our focus remains the same: giving our customers a better wash every time they visit,” said Drew Congleton, owner of Drew’s Car Wash.
The company’s Unlimited Wash Club memberships cover the touchless bays at no additional charge, the same as the express tunnels, and allow up to two washes a day at any location. Drew’s does not operate a separate membership tier for touchless washing, and a customer who signs up at a tunnel can use the bays overnight at no extra cost. Single washes are available at both formats without a membership.
Free vacuums, microfiber towels, all-purpose cleaner, mat beaters, compressed air and air freshener are available to every customer after a wash at all seven locations rather than sold as add-ons. The company operates water reclamation systems and uses biodegradable products across its sites, and employs high school and college students from Bryan and College Station, training every team member on customer service before they work a lot.
By 2017, roughly a decade into the expansion, the company reported washing more than 250,000 vehicles a year across the locations it operated at the time.
Drew’s Car Wash was named Best Car Wash in The Eagle’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards in July, its sixth consecutive win in the reader-voted contest, and has been voted Best of the Brazos Valley every year since 2016 in a separate reader-voted contest run by Brazos Life.
