Groundworks® Earns 10th Consecutive Inc. 5000 Ranking – Ten Years After Betting on an Overlooked Industry

Ten years ago, foundation repair was a fragmented industry dominated by local operators, with few national players and limited pathways for skilled tradespeople to build long-term careers. In 2016, Groundworks entered the industry and saw an opportunity to do things differently: create a company where people doing the work had a chance to build a career, grow alongside the company, and, ultimately, have a stake in its success.

Today, Groundworks has earned its 10th consecutive ranking on the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies, marking a decade of uninterrupted recognition. Along the way, the company has served more than 1.5 million homeowners and created a workforce in which nearly 5,000 employees are now owners of the company they help build every day.

“This recognition belongs to our great people. People in the field and people in our corporate office. Great companies are only built by great people. The men and women who show up every day and do the work. Ten years ago, I bet on finding, investing, growing, and rewarding them. All I did was get out of their way and let them build it,” said Matt Malone, founder and executive chairman of Groundworks. “As an entrepreneur, it is incredible to be on this list for ten years straight – especially at our size. This list measures hyper growth, but what I’m proudest of is who grew with us. Our employees didn’t just build this company; they built their Company.”

Ten Years of Growth

From its earliest days, Groundworks focused on building a company where a job in the skilled trades could become something more. A profession. An opportunity to lead. And eventually, the opportunity to share in the value they helped create.

That philosophy became tangible through employee ownership. To date, Groundworks has distributed $31 million to nearly 5,000 employee-owners, with employees becoming eligible for ownership after six months on the job.

Ownership extends across the organization, including the people working directly in the field. For Groundworks, it represents a fundamental part of how the company approaches growth: when employees have a stake in the outcome, the success of the company and the success of its people become interconnected.

That same philosophy has shaped how Groundworks invests in its workforce. Through training and certification, employees gain the skills they need to grow and advance. Over the company’s 10-year history, that commitment has helped fuel more than 4,000 internal promotions, with field employees advancing approximately every six months on average.

The Next Decade

The 10th consecutive Inc. 5000 ranking marks a significant milestone for Groundworks, but the company sees the recognition as evidence of what can happen when an overlooked industry and the people who power it receive sustained investment.

Now, Groundworks is applying that same philosophy to its next phase of growth. The company recently committed to creating 5,000 skilled trades jobs over the next five years, including nearly 1,000 leadership positions. In August alone, Groundworks is hiring 516 field employees nationwide.

The investment comes as employers across the skilled trades continue to face significant demand for workers. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects approximately 649,300 job openings in construction and extraction occupations each year, on average, from 2024 through 2034.

For Groundworks, the next decade is about more than expanding its footprint. It is about giving thousands more people the chance to find what others have found here: the opportunity to build a career in the skilled trades, with training to help them get started, professional growth and leadership development to help them advance, and an ownership stake that allows them to benefit from the growth they help create.

Ten years ago, Groundworks bet on an overlooked industry and the people doing some of its hardest work. A decade later, those people haven’t just helped build an international company. They’ve built careers, become leaders, and become owners.

The next 10 years are about giving thousands more people that same chance.
